Truncate expired DiskDirectory file in Condense

I understand that we treat disk directory the same as tape and do not purge the virtual tape data on the volume until the virtual tape is reused. Once the virtual tape is re-use the data will be purge.
Would it be possible to purge the data once the retention for the virtual tape is expired so that space is reclaimed before the tape is re-use?
